Even at the height of the peace negotiations with Israel, in December 2013, Fatah official Tawfiq Tirawi said that Palestinians were not committed to non-violence. Rather, he said that negotiations are just one option, and do not preclude use of the “rifle,” which the Palestinians have never abandoned.
Last week, Palestinian Media Watch reported that Tirawi had essentially proclaimed the end of the peace process, saying that “the two-state solution does not exist.” He further called for Israel’s destruction, asserting that “Palestine is Gaza… the West Bank… and Haifa, Jaffa, Acre,” meaning all of Israel is “Palestine.”
In his earlier statement, Tirawi made it clear that violence, killing and Martyrdom are the keys to Palestinian future success. “Not a centimeter of Jerusalem will be liberated unless every grain of Palestinian soil is soaked in the blood of its brave people,” Tirawi stated at an event marking World Teachers’ Day in December 2013. “Negotiations will not bring Jerusalem back to us,” he continued, explaining that Palestinians before “have conducted negotiations, while not laying down the rifle”:
In August 2013, right after the negotiations with Israel began, Tirawi likewise stated on Lebanese TV that armed struggle is as valid an option as negotiations:
“There are many options we could turn to, beginning with resistance by political confrontation, [resistance] by stones, and ending with armed struggle and everything in between.” [Al-Mayadeen TV (Lebanon), Aug. 13, 2013]

“I say, from a position of responsibility, not a centimeter of Jerusalem will be liberated unless every grain of Palestinian soil is soaked in the blood of its brave people. For Jerusalem doesn’t need negotiations, because negotiations will not bring Jerusalem back to us.
There are many options we could turn to, beginning with resistance by political confrontation, [resistance] by stones, and ending with armed struggle and everything in between.
the principle of armed struggle should not be abandoned, nor should the principle of resistance [be abandoned]. I would also like to say to all who say that the Fatah Movement has cast away the rifle: This is not true.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu paid his respects to Israel's fallen soldiers at the official Remembrance Day ceremony at Jerusalem's Mount Herzl on Monday.
"There is no pain in the world that surpasses the pain of parents who learn that their children have been killed," Netanyahu stated.
Having lost his brother Yoni during military service, Netanyahu said that he had seen his own parents hit with this loss.
"In the generations before the state was founded our blood was spilled, but that was purposeless, whereas here in Israel the medicine for the pain is the understanding of our purpose," Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu cited the deaths of tens of thousands in Syria, as a possible fate of the Jews, without the existence of the state of Israel and the IDF.
"A few kilometers north of Jerusalem a massacre is occurring that has killed tens of thousands that do not have the power to defend themselves. Who would doubt that that would be our fate without the IDF. The IDF is the only thing that separates us from the massacres that our people knew in the past," he said.
Odessa’s Jews are prepared to evacuate should the violence in the western Ukrainian city get significantly worse, several community leaders told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
Odessa’s Jewish community numbers some 30,000, down from nearly 40 percent of the city’s population before the Holocaust.
According to Rabbi Refael Kruskal – the head of the Tikva organization, which runs a network of orphanages and schools and provides social services to the city’s elderly – several of the wounded from Friday’s clashes were Jews, and the community is taking all necessary precautions.
“Over the weekend we closed the [Great Choral] Synagogue,” Kruskal said. “We took all the students out of the center of the city where the violence was, because we were worried it was going to spread. We sent a text message to everybody in the community on WhatsApp that they should stay at home over the weekend.”
While the synagogue, which is located close to the site of Friday’s clashes, was reopened Sunday morning, Kruskal said he planned on closing it again later in the day.
The Jewish community, he added, is hunkering down and trying to ride out the storm.
With even the Ukraine authorities no longer denying civil war has broken out, the next two escalation steps are clear: first Russia, whose involvement is now just a matter of time and tactics, and then NATO.
Both of these two events are not quantized, and instead have been proceeding in gradual steps, with Russian involvement allegedly facilitating the local resistance militias, both with weapons and funding, if not personnel. NATO has also not been sitting on its hands, and while the US has so far been instrumental in providing naval support in the Black Sea withtwo warships patrolling just off Russian naval territory, it has been NATO's task to defend the skies in the regions neighboring Russia.

That doesn't stop the coverage from getting grimmer and more fraught. But thisIndependent article is somewhat unique because while it conveys the escalating violence, it also signals to us that things are not what they seem.
So US meddling has brought to the fore the very kind of "nationalist" regime thatAnglosphere think tanks love to worry about – often warning that such regimes lead to intolerance, racism and even genocide.
What is actually revealing about this episode is that a US-led coup has been exposed in the midst of its machinations. This has never really happened before in the modern era.

A strong earthquake jolted Tokyo early Monday, rattling windows and nerves though there were no initial reports of major damage. The national broadcaster NHK, citing local authorities, said 17 people were reported injured, some of them from falls as the quake struck.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake at 5:18 a.m. local time (2018 GMT Sunday) had a magnitude of 6.0 and was centred 160 kilometres under the seabed near Izu Oshima island south of Tokyo.
The quake was felt across a wide area of Japan, with the strongest shaking registered in central Tokyo, the agency reported. Tokyo Fire Department reported that four people were injured, but details were not immediately available.
The recent breakdown in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and its apparent implications distorts the day to day reality in Israel. Furthermore, the comments made by John Kerry paint a bleak picture of a country on the verge of becoming a pariah in the international community, or at the least indicate that it would be fair for Israel to be treated that way. While many are predisposed regarding the prospects of the peace process and who is at fault for the most recent breakdown, for those seeking the truth, it is of utmost importance to understand the reality on the ground.
Since 1993, the Israelis and Palestinians have been involved in a “peace process,” which might imply that the sides are at each other’s throat and incessantly fighting. Furthermore, it would indicate that this “peace process” is the only way to bring an end to the incessant fighting and bloodshed. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
The reality is that Israel, not only as a country, but as individual citizens, lives at peace with the Palestinians. Hard to believe – but it’s true. Since 1947, when Israel accepted the U.N. Partition Plan, which gave them sovereignty over a crumb of land, Israel has continuously reached out to the Arabs for peace, only to be met with a just as continuous chant of no, no, no.
Despite all of the rhetoric, there is no Israeli group, either on the political left or the political right who advocates violence against the Palestinians simply because they are Palestinians. While some groups may propose harsh responses to Palestinian terrorism, initiating violence against the Palestinians is virtually unheard of in Israel.
Israel teaches tolerance in its schools, accommodates Arabs at government offices recognizing it as one of the languages of the country, has organizations that collect charity for poor Arabs, treats patients from Gaza, the Palestinian controlled territories in Judea and Samaria, and from a variety of other Arab countries in the Middle East at its hospital and medical clinics – specifically those in need of unique medical treatments that are not available in their home countries.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said regarding the Palestinian political leadership or the general populace. No sane Israeli would travel to any of the Palestinian controlled cities. Not only is it forbidden by Israeli law, but it is a possible death wish. The reason Israel forbids its citizens to enter Palestinian controlled areas is that the IDF knows that there is good chance that an Israeli travelling in a West Bank city will most likely need to be rescued by an army operation. Even travelling through certain Arab villages in pre-1967 Israel can be a dangerous undertaking for a non-Arab.
Israelis would never possibly consider going to an Arab medical center for fear of leaving dead – and not because of natural causes.
The Palestinian schools teach incitement against the Israelis in theirtextbooks. Their textbooks and maps do not even mention Israel’s existence. Palestinian and Arab media continually incite violence against Israel – from political talk shows to children’s programs all advocate jihad against Israel. The incitement is so venomous and on such a large scale – yet ignored by the West and others in a fantasy world - that there is a website called Palestinian Media Watch dedicated to monitoring it.
Israelis do not work for Palestinian companies because 1) they can’t travel to Palestinian controlled cities; 2) they wouldn’t be hired anyway; and 3) even if hired they would always be taking the risk of being killed on the job. Furthermore, PA chairman Abu Mazen has repeatedly said that no Israelis will be allowed to live in a Palestinian state.
Palestinian leaders have not made any goodwill gestures to Israel or ever said anything positive about Israel itself, despite sending ill family members to hospitals in Israel for treatment. Palestinian leaders continue to spread lies throughout the international community about Israel and Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.
