In the news

On a relatively slow news day we have a few interesting stories:

Reports: Russia successfully tests much-hyped ballistic missile

The Russian Navy on Friday successfully test fired its Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile, the weapon the government hopes will be the future of its nuclear arsenal, Russian news agencies reported.

Russian officials billed Bulava as a new-generation weapon, capable of dodging any potential missile defences, thanks to its quick start and an ability to perform unusual manoeuvrs in flight.

As the tests drag on, the Russian navy has already commissioned the first of a new series of nuclear-powered submarines to be armed with the new missile.

Russian agencies reported that vessel would be the next platform to test the Bulava.
Several other such submarines are under construction, and officials have said they could not be adapted to carry another type of missile if the Bulava program fails.

The next story falls into the category of "You have to be kidding me".

Israel may lease east Jerusalem from a Palestinian State

Arab newspaper reports that US, Israel are discussing future borders; one option is leasing land from Palestinians for up to 99 years.

The US is negotiating the future borders of the Palestinian state with Israel, according to a report released by Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat on Friday.

One option is reportedly that Israel would lease land in east Jerusalem from the Palestinian state for 40-99 years.

Palestinian sources confirmed to the paper that the US and Israel are discussing borders and settlements, but PA President Mahmoud Abbas does not yet know the details.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's office refused to confirm or deny the reports, and State Department sources told the paper that Israel and the US are discussing matters "as a part of the the close relations between the two countries."

Asharq Al-Awsat also reported that Israel and the Palestinians discussed the option of leasing land in talks at Taba in 2001, but they discussed leasing for 6-9 years, and not 99.

Another persecution story:

Egyptian Christians in danger after allegedly allying with Israel

Unfortunately for Egypt’s 10 million Christians, they are the perfect scapegoat in an increasingly radicalized Muslim society.
To stir up the public against the Christians, Egyptian Muslim clerics and media outlets have circulated a claim that the nation’s Coptic Christian minority is importing weapons from Israel in preparation for an assault on Egypt’s Muslims

The claim originated on the pan-Arab satellite news network Al Jazeera, which ensured that just about every Egyptian Muslim, if not ever Middle East Muslim, was aware of the unfounded assertion that Egypt’s Christians were preparing for war with the aid of the hated “Zionist entity.”

Speaking on Al Jazeera on September 15, prominent Egyptian Muslim cleric Mohammed Salim al-Awwa declared that Egyptian Christians were “stocking arms and ammunition in their churches and monasteries - arms imported from Israel, no less, as Israel is at the heart of the Coptic Cause - and are preparing to wage war against Muslims.”

Since those reports first started circulating last month, the Barnabas Fund, an organization that provides assistance to persecuted Christian communities, says that at least 10 large Muslim demonstrations against Christians have taken place in Egypt.

At least one Muslim group is calling for a “bloodbath” to be perpetrated against the Christian minority.

Another Egyptian writer, Youssef Ibrahim, notes that “as part of the deal, Mubarak [also] agreed to feed Egypt’s Christians to the growing Islamic beast.”

Raymond Ibrahim concluded is piece by lamenting that “as Egypt reverts to its medieval character, the Copts find themselves again in a period of severe persecution.”

Tellingly, the international media has almost completely ignored this story, while not failing to provide prime headline real estate whenever Israeli Jews build a few houses that upset the Palestinian Arabs.

Israel being forced to give up Jerusalem. Persecution. Gog arming up. Sounds like another day of prophecy watching - even on a slow day.

Hart
Look at the second block of quotes - It just says "one option" would be for Israel to lease land in East Jerusalem "from the Palestinian state" for 40-99 years..

How bizarre. Sounds like something the UN would cook up......

....my bad. should have read it more closely....and yes, sounds like something the U.nited N.othing would cook up.

i confess that with these posts i simply skim over alot of the articles cuz quite frankly i know whats coming and these articles, although confirming the nearness, really tick me off when i hear their nonsense....anyway, here is a question: could it be that the real reason we hav`nt seen the persecution here in america to the degree of other nations is not because "we`re a great nation blessed by God"

hartdawg said...

tho we have been blessed, and not because our support of isreal, and not because of "christian principles" but in fact the oppisite? could it be because the lifestyles christians live in america is not much of a threat and not much different than nonchristians? could that be the real reason? and if so could it be that if christians in america really forsook everything like in other nations then the kind of persecution that occurs in other nations would quickly come to america?

Hmmm...That could be.
Its confusing because in America, as you know, there are many large groups who vigorously support Israel, and then there are so many groups who oppose Israel. Still, after its all said and done, we still help support their military etc (THIS may be our "saving grace").

Then, as you say, the "lifestyles" etc., and another factor completely and our lukewarm churches are as well.

Which outweighs the other?

In my opinion - once we turn away from israel completely (and we are close to this now IMO) and/or take specific actions to divide Jerusalem, or force Israel into concessions which endanger them - then all bets are off at that point.

I believe we're right on that "ledge" now, and how we treat Israel in these next months/years (if we have that long) will determine our eventual fate.

what i`m saying is slightly different...wrath comes from God...which we`re not appointed to. persecution comes from man which "anyone who lives a Godly life will be persecuted" so if we fully support isreal, forsake everything for the gospel...the "saving grace" you mentioned has to do with judgement, not persecution so again, i ask the question to ponder: could it be that if we (the u.s) forsook everything and became a threat then the persecution (not judgement)that occurs in other nations will quickly come to the u.s.? (even if we support isreal)

...or could it be we are NOT being persecuted only so the gospel can go out? once that stops here it comes (or hopefully away we go)

We're not appointed to God's wrath in terms of the Tribulation, but IMO, Genesis 12 applies to every nation at all times, and is an "independent" warning that stands alone.

As far as persecution, I think we're already in the early stages of that. I also believe it could worsen considerable before the Trib (hope not - but I think it could worsen).

We'll find out soon enough - at the speed we are approaching both the Tribulation and Gog-MaGog - we may not be around long enough to see it worsen significantly. Sure hope not anyway....
